A map of the Somme, which shows locations of British, Canadian, Australian and American memorials, cemeteries and battle lines. It also shows museums and remaining bunkers, as well as modern roads suitable for family cars.
This is one of a series of unique maps drawn and published by Major and Mrs Holt the well-known experts on touring the battlefields of the First and Second World Wars. The maps are accurately drawn and double sided and have a consistent map reference and colour coding system across the series that enables precise location of memorials, cemeteries, museums, battle lines, places of particular interest. The maps not only enable the user to find a particular spot on a battlefield but also make it possible to plan a route for a visit.

Major and Mrs Holt (Tonie and Valmai Holt) are well known military authors with over 20 books published. They are generally credited with having founded the modern battlefield tour industry and their series of maps and guide books are derived from their having conducted thousands of people around the battlefields. The Ypres authorities acknowledge that the Holts' works have been responsible for the growth of battlefield tourism to the Salient and in a survey of British visitors to the Somme, the Tourism Department discovered that over 50% had made their visit because of the Holts' publications.

Detailed thematic and grid reference indexes which are colour coded and cross-referenced.
