A comprehensive survey of Islamic economics in all its diversity and complexity.
This book presents a comprehensive survey of Islamic economics in all its diversity and complexity. Divided into four parts, each describes a facet of Islamic political economy: *A general introduction to Islam and Islamic political economy *A brief historical overview *A summary of dominant Islamic political-economic thinking *A look at the 'praxis' of Islamic political economy, exploring the different attempts at Islamicisation. A conclusion looks at the prospects for Islamic political economy in the 21st century. The book incorporates numerous concrete examples and case studies, illustrative quotes from the Qur'an and the Hadith, and from Islamic thinkers past and present. There is also an extensive bibliography, a substantial glossary and a comprehensive list of research institutes and internet resources. Intended for a broad readership, it is accessible enough to be read by non-specialists.

Ibrahim Warde is Adjunct Professor of International Business at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University. He is author of several books including The Price of Fear: The Truth behind the Financial War on Terror (2007).
