A study of normal and abnormal blood cells from various mammals, birds and reptiles, showing changes in cell morphology in primary blood diseases, eg leukaemia and secondary responses, eg anaemia.
Although the study of blood cell morphology has reached a high level of sophistication in man, the amount of information available on other species is comparatively limited. The use of blood films in microscopical examination can reveal a great deal about the health of the individual and about any disease processes which might be present. This atlas illustrates both normal and abnormal blood cells from a variety of mammals, birds and reptiles. It points out changes in cell morphology in primary blood diseases such as leukaemia, and with secondary responses associated with infection such as anaemia. The subject of blood parasites is also covered. The book should be of use to both veterinary practitioners concerned with the diagnosis of disease in domesticated, laboratory and exotic species, and to zoologists, haematologists and physiologists interested in comparative aspects of blood cell morphology.
